Spring Droplet - 2007
Reclaimed and modified television, coffee table, amplifier, and contact microphone
An interactive installation based on the “wobble vision” technique.
Sound picked up by a contact microphone is amplified and used to drive the cathode ray tube of a discarded television. The end result is a pattern on the screen that looks (to me) like ripples in a pond. Manipulating the spring, stomping, or yelling creates “waves” that travel outward.
It’s a fun way of showing off the tiny sounds that are all around us, all the time.
