NORMAL - Instruments 2020
Prototypes II
In 2020 Fred Frith and I were commissioned by the Center for New Music's Window Gallery
to create an exhibition's worth of instruments. We set off planning and building
and then covid happened...
I had intended to build a set of instruments designed specifically for travel,
influenced a great deal by the work of instrument builder Tom Nunn,
but since no one was travelling anywhere these ideas shifted and
we built some instruments that were a bit large for easy transport.
Instead of the gallery exhibition that had been planned
we pivoted to an online demonstration of the instruments.

Since then we've had a bit more time with the instruments,
time enough to finally get around to making some music
and recording an
album with them.
